1967 The Eastern portion of Nigeria secedes as Biafra.
1970 Biafra surrenders and becomes part of Nigeria again.
10 Jul 1984 British customs officials in London open a large wooden crate marked "diplomatic baggage" because of its extremely odd odor. Inside they discover Alhaji Umaru Dikko, Nigeria's former Minister of Transport and Aviation. He had been abducted, drugged, and bound for Nigeria to face trial for embezzlement.
Nov 1993 General Sani Abacha seizes power in a military coup.
1998 President-for-life Sani Abacha dies during a sex romp with a prostitute.
Jan 2002 An explosion at a munitions dump in Lagos leaves over 1,000 dead.
Nov 2002 Rioting over the Miss World pageant leaves 200 dead, in the largest beauty pageant disaster in the history of mankind.
19 Feb 2003 Nigerian Counsel Michael Lekara Wayid shot dead in Prague by a victim of the Nigerian email spam.
