In these proceedings, Casey supposedly asks the Iranians to keep the American hostages in Iran until after the 1980 election in exchange for weapons, thus ruining Jimmy Carter's reelection bid. The evidence of this claim is sketchy at best. Casey claimed that he was at Bohemian Grove at the time of the supposed meetings.
Jan 1981 Ronald Reagan appoints William Casey DCI.
18 Dec 1986 Undergoes surgery for malignant brain tumor.
Jan 1987 Steps down as DCI for health reasons.
29 Jan 1987 DCI William Casey dies of a brain tumor a mere two days before he is to give testimony for the Iran-Contra scandal, Mayknoll, MD. He had received a craniotomy. Dodged that one!
